Plastic waste crisis

  • Plastic pollution has since become one of the most serious threats humanity faces
  • By 2015, 60% of all plastic ever produced had become plastic waste
  • Plastic pollution threatens food safety and quality, human health, and coastal tourism, marine life, and contributes to climate change
  • According to the forecasts plastic waste leaking into nature will triple by 2040

About rePurpose Global

rePurpose Global is the World’s leading Plastic Action Platform, bringing together brands, consumers, innovators, and policymakers to collectively combat the plastic waste crisis
Their results so far:

  • 47,404,355 pounds of plastic recovered from landfills, coastlines, and other areas
  • 1,034,000 people across the world benefitting from improved waste management services

What does plastic neutral means?

  • Plastic Neutral means that we are committed to plastic reduction, and funding the recovery of as much plastic from nature as we use in our products and packaging
  • With the help of the rePurpose Global Impact project, we will collect 3895 kilograms of plastic in 2024, which covers our total annual plastic output

The project we support

The name is Saaf Samudra means “CLEAN SEA”
Location: Goa, a coastal state on the Arabian Sea shore in India
The problem in this area:

  • Most of its municipal waste is at risk of leaking into the ocean
  • 60% of total waste on the coast is plastic, with a significant presence of marine litter
  • The goal of the project is to stop plastic waste leaking into nature
  • It is a collaboration between rePurpose Global and V-Recycle
  • Waste workers collect low-value plastic waste before it leaks out into the environment
  • This program provides an additional income stream to waste workers so that they can gain access to better education and healthcare

Why did we partner up with rePurpose Global?

  • We are acknowledging that our plastic footprint has a harmful impact on the planet and people and committing to reduction and recovery efforts to minimize this
  • In project Saaf Samudra such plastic is collected from nature that otherwise not be collected, most of it cannot be recycled because it is low-value plastic
  • With this project such plastic is collected that could end up in oceans
  • The program has an impact not just on the environment, but also on society: it creates job possibilities for the citizens, resulting in higher wages, better health care, and enhanced educational opportunities

Project partnerships beside Saaf Samudra

Our work with rePurpose Global has helped us battle plastic pollution, and the effects have been considerable. In addition to the Saaf Samudra project, we participate in several additional efforts to reduce plastic waste and protect the environment.

During the year 2024, we will take part in several actions organized by rePurpose Global:

April:

  • We took part in The Great Himalayan CleanUp project organized on the occasion of this year's Earth Day
  • Approx. 4500 kg (10000 lbs) plastics were collected
  • 539 volunteers were involved: they were the Waste Warriors team, school and college students, waste workers, village residents, and local authorities and bodies
